The ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ has driven 160 teens to suicide in Russia

The ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ has driven 160 teens to commit suicide in Russia. And it’s now spreading. Its creator said the “game” is a ‘moral good’ and helps to ‘cleanse society’. He’s now behind bars. But similar online communities keep emerging. Rules involve forms of self-harm and suicide at a final level.

Panic began in November, 2015, after selfies of a 17-year-old went viral. She posted them minutes before jumping in front of a train. But critics argue the link between ‘blue whale’ communities and teen suicides is still unclear.
